The Ruger Flattop 44 Special Bisley was inspired by the great sixgunners of old, like Elmer Keith.

Those that carry big bore revolvers on a daily basis can appreciate its balanced size and shootability. In the fall of that year while at a dealer promotion I was talking to one of Ruger’s product managers. He asked me if I had gotten my 44 Specials yet, and I told him that our backorders were still too deep and I didn’t want to get mine until we had cleaned up the list. In addition, I told him I had my heart set on converting them to a Bisley since that is my preferred setup.

The 5-1/2″ Ruger Flattop 44 Special makes for a fine hunting revolver and all-around packing gun

After talking about the attributes of the Bisley gripframe, my friend at Ruger suggested that he build two for me and then we could see about doing a run of them. After showing them around the office, it was no doubt that our sales staff was on board to sell them. To make a long story short, we decided to run these in 2010 and needless to say they have been very well received. the 5-1/2″ barrel really makes for a fine hunting revolver and all-around packing gun.

Lipsey’s has offered Bisley .44 Special revolvers since 2010, but only in a blue finish. Now these desirable configurations will be available in a tough, weather resistant stainless steel. They are being built on the mid-size 357 Magnum frame in both the 4-5/8” and 5-1/2” barrel lengths. Rosewood laminate grips and pinned front sights adorn these rugged sixguns.

This is the closest gun we have in factory form to the the Flattop 44 Special we brought to market in 2009 which was a huge success.

Jason Cloessner, Lipsey’s Vice President and Product Development Manager, couldn’t wait to add these revolvers to Lipsey’s growing line of special make-up firearms. “Our line-up of Ruger single action .44 Specials continues to be one of my favorites. The stainless Bisleys give you both a classic and functional field gun.”
